Flash Solar Simulators

Flash solar simulators use a flash lamp and spectral filter to deliver a pulse of light onto a target for a short period, with minimal heating of the sample and lower cost per target area.

Sciencetech manufactures a wide range of flash solar simulators.

The FLASH-ST4 pulse stretcher integrates with Sciencetech flash light sources and solar simulators that operate with the 2400RS power pack.
The stretcher is connected in-line between the power pack and the flash light source or solar simulator housing. The FLASH-ST4 stretches pulses to 4ms +/-3% stabity level.
In most cases using the FLASH-ST4 reduces the maximum intensity level achievable by the light source. Typically maximum peak intensity levels are reduced by 1/2 of simulator or light sources peak specified Sun or intensity level.

Sciencetech can produce customer flash pulse stretchers depending on your design requirements. Please talk to a technical support representative for more information.

The PSS-series of flash (or pulsed) solar simulators are designed to illuminate large photovoltaic devices up to 2 × 2 m in size with up to 1 sun irradiance, with spectral matching to terrestrial (AM1.5G) or space (AM0) conditions. Spectral match must be selected at the time of order and cannot be changed after production. The system comes with an included device trolley, with a tilted target plane calibrated for the system.

These systems are based on a heavy-duty xenon flash lamp, combined with spectral filtering and a built-in beam conditioning reflector. The standard flash measurement window is 0.2 ms, but an optional pulse current regulator can be selected to allow for a flat, stable pulse within a measurement window of 4.0 ms.

This product includes a flash head, power supply, flash lamp, air mass filter, variable attenuator, temperature sensor, system housing, current-voltage measurement system, computer, and sample trolley.

Please see the table below to select the best IV measurement system for your application.

Specifications:
Spectral Match: up to Class A, see table below
Spatial Non-Uniformity: Class A
Temporal Instability: Class A
Target Size: 0.9 × 0.9 m - 2 × 2 m, see table below
Spectral Range: Depends on AM filter selection
Collimation: Non-collimated

Please note: Mains voltage must be selected at the time of purchase, and cannot be changed after production.

Sciencetech's FSSP solar simulator is designed to illuminate targets of 1x1m with 1 sun, or smaller targets with multiple suns. The default spectral match is to ASTM AM1.5G. The flash itself is a stable 1ms length, with options available (purchased separately) to stretch the pulse. Timing and number of flashes can be computer controlled. This unit is a Class AAA flash solar simulator by default, with options available to reduce spatial uniformity in order to increase target size.

Sciencetech can also offer increased spectral ranges and other additional features upon request.

This product includes a flash system, power supply, lamp, and an air mass filter (AM1.5G). Other filters are available at additional cost. Available accessories include IV measurement systems, pre-configured host computers, and sample holding and cooling options. Please inquire with Sciencetech technical support staff about our automation and assembly line manufacturing partners.
