Sciencetech Light Sources

SCIENCETECH offers light sources from UV to Infrared. A complete light source typically includes the lamp monted in a housing with condensing/coupling optics, a power supply and all the necessary cables and hardware. For spectroscopic applications, a DC stabilized power supply is required. Arc sources also include a stand alone igniter to break down the gas and establish the plasma sdischarge. A full line of accessories such as light condensers and collimators, filters, optical feedback units output stabilization and light shutters are available.

We offer several standard types of light sources:

  • Xenon Arc lamp Light Sources .   Arc lamps contain plasma confined in a quartz envelope, wich produces radiation from 200nm to 2.5um. They have a very strong ultraviolet output and, since the emitting plasma volume is very small, their brightness in the visible region is approximately one order of magnitude higher than that of QTH sources, making them excellent for illuminating small targets. The main arc bulb types are Xenon (Xe), Mercury (Hg), Mercury-Xenon (Hg-Xe) and metal halide under high pressure for maximum brightness.


  • Quartz Tungsten Halogen. (QTH) Light from QTH lamps is emitted by a heated filament. The filament is enclosed in a quartz envelope filled with gases. The spectral distribution is close to that of a blackbody curve with a colour temperature of approximately 3000°K. QTH lamps have a useful spectral output from 300nm to 2.7µm.


  • Deuterium & Dual Deuterium Tungsten. Deuterium (D2) sources are ideal for UV spectroscopy since they have a high ultraviolet output with little visible and infrared emission. UV grade fused silica envelopes can also be used, instead of the standard UV glass envelope, for missions below 180 nm.


  • Infrared Light Source. 
    Sciencetech offers both IR emitter housing Elliptical Reflector or Parabolic Reflector.

Sciencetech's 621 series power supplies are designed to work with Sciencetech 200-2.5k and 201-2.5k series lamp houses. The 621-3k is designed to power 2.5kW and 3.0kW xenon and mercury-xenon arc lamps. The 621 power supply includes a touchscreen interface and several useful built in components:
- Lamp life timer
- Powers and controls Sciencetech XLH lamp house fans
- Shutter and exposure controller (24VDC with 12VDC hold)

Sciencetech also offers a tunable light source solar simulator combination instrument. This combination system allows a selectable output at the target plane of spatially uniform sun light or monochromatic light.

The tunable light source—solar simulator combination system adds a homogenization unit to the exit port of the monochromator that includes and electronic shutter and 2 position filter tray.

The tunable light source functions the same as the other models in Sciencetech’s tunable light source line but adds the extra functionality of a solar simulator with broadband spatially uniform white light.
