Sciencetech Light Sources for Research


Sciencetech offers light sources from UV to Infrared. A complete light source for research typically includes the lamp mounted in a housing with condensing/coupling optics, a power supply and all the necessary cables and hardware. For spectroscopic application, a DC stabilized power supply is required. Arc sources also include a stand alone igniter to break down the gas and establish the plasma discharge. A full line of accessories such as light condensers and collimators, filters, optical feedback units output stabilization and light shutters are available.

Sciencetech Light Sources

Xenon Arc Lamp Light Sources

Arc lamps contain plasma confined in quartz, producing radiation from 200nm to 2.5µm. With a strong ultraviolet output and a small emitting plasma volume, their brightness in the visible region is one order of magnitude higher than QTH sources. Ideal for illuminating small targets.

Deuterium & Dual Deuterium Tungsten

Deuterium (D2) sources are ideal for UV spectroscopy since they have a high ultraviolet output with little visible and infrared emission. UV grade fused silica envelopes can also be used, instead of the standard UV glass envelope, for missions below 180 nm.

Quartz Tungsten Halogen (QTH)

Light from QTH lamps is emitted by a heated filament. The filament is enclosed in a quartz envelope filled with gases. The spectral distribution is close to that of a blackbody curve with a colour temperature of approximately 3000°K. QTH lamps have a useful spectral output from 300nm to 2.7µm.

Coupling our capabilities in light source manufacture and spectroscopy allows us to manufacture complete systems such as our Sciencetech Tunable Light Source.

Calibration Light Sources

Sciencetech offers a line of calibration pen lamps, as well as additional adjustable mounts.

Infrared Light Sources

Sciencetech offers both IT emitter housing Elliptical Reflector or Parabolic Reflector.

Solar Simulators

Sciencetech’s 201-100-D lamp housing allows for a vertically mounted 30W deuterium lamp. Such lamps produce a strong broadband UV output from 185-400nm despite its low wattage. The unit is forced air-cooled with a blower at the base that draws air from the top intake to the bottom of the housing. The lamp socket is mounted vertically on alignment pins such that the lamp’s filament can be properly centered on the front light exit port for optimum light output efficiency. The front light exit port includes one 1” fused silica collimating lens to output parallel rays. The lamp and external power supply are sold separately.

The spectral output is smooth and approximates a 3300K black body. Since each wattage lamp has its own socket style, a QTH lamp housing may only accommodate the selected wattage lamp once the socket style is specified. The unit is forced air-cooled with a blower at the top of the housing hat draws air from the bottom intake and expels it out the top of the housing. The lamp socket is mounted vertically on alignment pins such that the lamp’s filament can be properly centered to the housing’s back spherical reflector and front light exit port for optimum light output efficiency. The lamp house comes standard with an F/1.5 BK7 Lens to collect light from the QTH lamp.

The Glow Bar (Globar) is a typical source used for infrared radiation. Due to the very low cost of the globar element itself, this allows researchers the ability to run the unit for long periods of time without concern for loss of an expensive bulb or element due to aging. The majority of the price for this unit is the power supply to run the globar stabily and continually.
This device does not include a housing, and for customers needing to mount to a Sciencetech SPS300, we recommend 188-9020 (which includes a housing and reflector, as well as necessary lines for water cooling). It does include the necessary power supply.

The majority of the price for this unit is the power supply to run the globar stabily and continually.
This device does not include a housing, and for customers needing to mount to a Sciencetech SPS300, we recommend 188-9020 (which includes a housing and reflector, as well as necessary lines for water cooling). It does include the necessary power supply.
