Monochromators and Spectrographs

The Sciencetech 9040 is a half meter, high performance monochromator/spectrograph. It supports large size gratings for high light throughput: three sizes are available: 64 × 64mm, 84 × 84 mm, and 102 × 102mm which allow it to achieve apertures of f/6.9, f/5.2 and f/4.0 respectively. This version is f/6.9, and suitable for use with 64 × 64mm sized ruled or holographic reflection gratings.
The 9040 is based on the Czerny-Turner optical configuration. The 9040 supports both single grating and triple grating turret configurations. This version is the triple grating turret version and supports up to three gratings mounted on a rotating turret for wavelength selection. The 9040 is also available in double additive and double subtractive versions to obtain even higher resolution or to minimize stray light.
This model includes a single SS-84 high-resolution manual slit at the input. If an output slit is required, it must be added separately. Motorized slits are available as an upgrade.
This monochromator is not configurable for double pass mode.
The system is configured by default for front input and output ports, but lateral or dual input and output ports can be added separately.

9055-DX is a motorized double 1/4m monochromator that can be switched between additive and subtractive configurations. Double monochromators have the advantage of extremely low stray light levels by virtue of using two gratings. An intermediate slit between the two units, used to define the wavelengths that pass to the second unit, also masks off light scattered within the body of the first unit. In double additive operation the 9055DX effective focal length (1/2m), dispersion and resolution (1.7nm/mm and .09nm with a 1200 l/mm grating) are doubled compared to a single unit, making this mode useful where high resolution is important. In double subtractive operation there is no dispersion in the output beam and only a single slit image appears at the output instead of a broad spread of spectral images. This allows the system to operate as a tuneable bandpass or notch filter.
This system includes two manual slits (one input and one intermediate). Motorized upgrades and additional slits may be purchased separately.
Gratings also need to be purchased separately, with a minimum of 2 gratings required for the system to operate. Please speak with your Sciencetech technical sales member to ensure proper grating selection.

The imaging option 9055DX-i uses toroidal optics to compensate for astigmatism inherent in Czerney-Turner type monochromators and spectrographs.

The 9040DS is a Double Subtractive design of the half meter 9040. Special care has been taken to design the system to minimize and eliminate stray light whenever possible.
A double subtractive monochromator operates to create a monochromatic light source by the 2nd monochromator cancelling the dispersion caused by the 1st monochromator. This allows a Double Subtractive system to operate as a tunable notch filter for Raman applications.

The 9040DA double additive half meter spectrometer has been specifically designed for Raman applications, but also functions as a general-purpose monochromator. Special care has been taken to minimize or eliminate stray light wherever possible. The system ships with one input slit. Please speak with a Sciencetech sales representative to determine the optimal loadout for your particular system, including additional input and output ports, slits, motorized options, and grating selection.

The 9490 monochromator is Sciencetech's second highest resolution monochromator, with 1m focal length. With a 2400 l/mm grating it can achieve resolutions better than 0.01 nm in the standard single pass configuration. This version uses 64 x 64 mm gratings for an aperture of f/13. By default the monochromator comes with a single grating kinematic mount. Users can manually swap one grating for another without losing alignment. An optional motorized 3-grating turret is available for automatic grating selection without opening the housing. The 9490 has a flat field output allowing it to operate as a spectrograph using a linear array, multi-channel detector to capture the entire output spectrum continuously. Sciencetech provides a selection of 1" wide CCDs and photo-diode linear array detectors mounted on a multi-axis adjustable focusing platform for use with the 9490.
Some models of the 9490 can be updgraded to dual pass operation (-DP). With the -DP dual pass upgrade option even higher resolution is available by switching to a "double pass" configuration that effectively doubles the focal length to 2m.

The 9490 is Sciencetech's second largest monochromator, with a 1m focal length. It can achieve resolutions as high as 0.017nm in its standard "single pass" configuration with a 1200 l/mm grating. Up to twice that resolution is possible with the "double pass" configuration. This model of the 9490 allows the user to switch between the two modes seamlessly by shifting the position of a set of mirrors (easily done by rotating a single knob).

This model of monochromator accomodates a grating on a removable kinematic mount, allowing the user to manually swap one grating for another without losing alignment. Please note that this product includes one slit, but does not include any additional slits or a grating. These must be purchased separately. The 9150 is Sciencetech's largest monochromator with a 1.5m focal length. Under optimum conditions with a 2400 l/mm grating it can achieve a resolution of 0.004 nm in single pass mode. 9150SD includes an optical module that allows the unit to be configured in a double pass mode as well, effectively doubling the focal length to 3m and achievable resolution to 0.002 nm. It utilizes large 102 x 102 mm gratings for high light throughput (f/12 aperture). The 9150SD accommodates one grating on a removable, kinematic mount that allows the user to manually swap one grating for another without losing alignment.

This is an Echelle Spectrometer designed for diffraction limit operation, that provides a full spectrum coverage without gaps over a tunable 150nm range at a resolution of ~2pm in single pass mode. The spectrometer uses two gratings, two 1.5m f.l. parabolic reflectors and a corrector lens to produce a cross-dispersed echellegram that is recorded on a 3k x 3k cooled CCD camera with 12u pixels, at a dispersion of 1 pm/pixel. The long, thin echellegram is fit to the square CCD format using a 3 section image slicer, to maximize wavelength coverage and resolution.
Input optics include a micrometer adjustable rectangular input slit and a computer controlled source selector that can switch between four available input ports, useful in calibration.
Operational specifications are (for 31.5 l/mm 150x50 mm echelle, single pass)

* Wavelength coverage: 150nm band, position continuously selectable.
No gap coverage up to 800nm. Camera coverage 300nm-900nm.

* Software to transfer raw images to permanent storage at the maximum possible rate, to transform and store as spectra corrected for wavelength & intensity.
Please note that for full frame digitization at 12 bits the transfer rate is 10seconds per frame. Smaller frame sections can be transferred at correspondingly faster rates.
