AM1.5D Filter simulates the DIRECT solar spectrum on the ground when the sun is at 48.2° zenith angle. It is a removable filter that can be inserted into the filter holder of any Sciencetech Solar Simulator Filter Holder.
Transmission Light Throughput Efficiency
Our competitor's AM1.5D filter is typically the least efficient solar filter because it requires also AM0 solar filter to be placed in front of it (known as stacking). After these filters are placed in series, such competing AM1.0D solar filter is typically less efficient in throughput transmission. However, our Sciencetech AM 1.0D does not require other solar filters to be stacked with it, resulting in higher throughput.
Solar Filter Sizes
Sciencetech high powered fully reflective SS Series Solar simulators uses 3" x 3" solar filters with 2mm thickness. If a customer requires a smaller size filter, it is possible to cut them with the assumption that the excess size cannot be salvage. Sciencetech can offer to cut these filters to smaller sizes with 3 hours labor. The excess will become scrap and discarded and hence overall cost goes up, not down.
Solar Filter Temperature Handling
Although the filters are designed to handle up to 500°C degrees, Sciencetech has only tested them at 200°C degrees as that is the highest temperature of our own solar simulators.
Use with Third Party Xenon Light Sources
Although this solar filter is designed to be used with Sciencetech's xenon based solar simulators, it can also be used with any third party xenon based light sources to recreate the solar spectrum of the sun. Although Sciencetech cannot guarantee the spectral performance when used with third party xenon light sources, there is no reason to believe that it would be any different. Please note that Sciencetech recommends that this solar filter is air cooled to prevent it from cracking under the intense heat. It is design for use with xenon sources up to 1600W provided that it is air cooled to a temperature of less than 200°C.
