The quartz fiber optic have a quartz core and siloxane polymer cladding with individual fiber diameter 0.01”(0.25mm). Type IR exhibit weak yellow/green fluorescence at 254nm and darken in a gamma or X-ray environment. However, it is free of the water absorption dip at 1.4 µm. Hence it provides good transmission in the IR region to 2.7 µm.
