Pulser For Xenon Arc Lamp Operation
SKU: PULSEQ500

This pulser is designed to work alongside a continuous arc lamp power supply such that it can be used in flash as well as continuous mode. With this accessory, a continuous light arc lamp system can be "pulsed".  A 450W Xenon arc lamp pulsed at 500A will have its light output increased 125X in comparison to the same lamp with a continuous current of 20A. The pulse duration can also be adjusted from 0.1ms to 10ms at a repetition rate of 0.1Hz to 10Hz. When not pulsed, the arc lamp system is still on, as its independent continuous power supply is still powering it. There are two compatible continuous xenon arc lamp power supplies currently available, a 1000W model and a 500W model. These are not the same as Sciencetech's standard model 500-1K and model 500-500 continuous xenon power supplies which are not compatible with this pulser.

Standard Arc Lamps

Where most flash lamp system requires special flash bulbs, this Pulser works on standard Xenon short arc lamps. However, this limits the maximum current the pulse to approximately 10 times its continuous current. In this case, the maximum allowable current is 500A during the pulse duration.

Variable Power Setting

In addition to being able to select the pulse duration from 1ms-10ms, it is also possible to select the power level in Watts within that pulse duration.

Compatible Power Supplies

The Pulser is compatible with a 500W and 1000W constant current power supply for Xenon short arc lamps. These power supplies provide continuous power to the arc lamp which means the lamp stays on at all times. These power supplies are not the same as the standard Sciencetech 500-500 and 500-1K power supplies typically sold with continuous xenon arc lamp systems.

Spectral Characteristics

The spectrum of the xenon arc lamp in continuous and pulse mode are different. In the pulse mode, the spectrum is shifted to the blue range with the UV intensity getting higher.
