The Sciencetech 500-200 and 550-200 Power Supplies require this mandatory 500-IG external igniter for starting arc lamps. This igniter is connected in series to the Power Supply and automatically generates a 20kV spike to ignite the arc lamp. The igniter can detect the presence of an arc lamp and will automatically try to ignite it up to 5 times once the power supply has been turned on.
For some special applications where the interference of the High Voltage pulse is not acceptable (EMI) Sciencetech will include this igniter inside the lamp housing. The shorter cable connections with the lamp will minimize the electromagnetic radiation emitted during ignition and provide minimum inteference to nearby electronic equipment.
The 500-IG-std Ignater is the igniter recommended for the 200-100 & 201-100 Series Arc Lamp Housings, while the 500-IG that includes some electronic modifications it is used to ignite the 75W Hg lamp that Sciencetech supplies with the THz FTIR SPS-300 and SPS-400 Series.
