Sciencetech PMT Detectors are highly sensitive single channel detectors. Its sensitivity is orders of magnitude higher than regular silicon based detectors. The Sciencetech PMH-02 analog housing accepts a variety of "side-on" PMT tubes (sensors) for different wavelength detection applications. Please see list of compatible PMT tubes in the group accessories below, sold separately. The PMT housing has its own LCD display readout, BNC analog signal output, wide gain adjustment range, and wall mounted power supply. Sciencetech PMH-02 photomultiplier housing with all electronics. Mounting Mechanism
Sciencetech PMT Housing uses a quick release mechanism with two side screws to mount the PMT Detector onto Sciencetech monochromators without the need for re-alignment. The monochromator output port needs to be ordered with this corresponding quick release mount (9000M-PMT)
 
Photo Multiplier Tubes
Sciencetech PMT Housing accepts standard and photon-counting side-on PMT tubes. The Photon counting versions share the same socket as the standard, and hence the reason why they can also be used. However, these photon-counting PMT tubes will only be operating in analog mode and hence offer no advantage over standard PMT tubes except for their specific spectral range.
 
Nanosecond Response Time
PMTs have very fast response times and could even provide output response signals in the nanosecond range (i.e. 5-10ns). However, the PMT Housing electronics is not fast enough to detect these nanosecond outputs and hence our standard PMH-02 housing does not take full advantage of this fast speed. If a user needs to get response times in the nanosecond range, Sciencetech can by-pass the PMT housing electronics such that the raw PMT tube signal is connected to the final BNC output. Please note that none of the PMT Housing electronic functions such as scaling or even the display is functioning in this mode. The user must also supply their out data acquisition electronics to the PMT Housing as Sciencetech AD board data acquisition electronics and software do not support this fast speed.
 
Power Supply
The power supply unit is an external unit with a cable that feeds into the PMT housing. It is not built inside the PMT housing unit.
 
Replacement of PMT tubes
Since most PMTs share the same socket style, the PMT housing can accept more than one type of PMT. It is therefore possible for the customer to purchase one PMT housing, and multiple PMTs of the same socket style and interchange them when required. Please read the manual to assure safe exchange of the PMTs inside the housing to avoid electrical shocks and damage to tubes etc.
